1.) Tell us about yourself and your childhood?

My name is Amy Mulford, I am a photographer and sole owner of Little Love by Amy. I actually had a fairly simple, uneventful childhood. I grew up with 2 brothers, 1 older and the other younger. I was the only girl and smack dab in the middle so to say I was a bit spoiled is an understatement. As I grew up, I always knew I wanted to be a healthcare provider, I just didn’t know what kind. My senior in high school it became quite evident that I wanted to go to college for nursing so that is what I did, eventually. I actually have experience in many different areas of nursing including medical/surgical, ICU, mental health, pediatrics and my most favorite, labor & delivery. My last nursing job was at Methodist downtown in L&D for over 3 years before I quit to pursue photography full time which is what I am currently doing (Little Love Photography). I am lucky enough to be married to my soulmate and best friend. We have been together for 15 years and married for 12. We have 3 kiddos, 2 boys ages 11 and 8 and a little girl who is almost 5.

2.) Tell us about a challenging time in your life and what lessons you learned from it?

I’ve had many challenges but the worst was when I first left home for college. I found that I enjoyed my new found freedom a little too much. I struggled bad in school and ultimately gave up before I got my wake up call and decided it was time to grow up. I did some waitressing for a couple of years and that was how I met my now husband. I put myself through nursing school and left my partying days behind me.

3.) How or what started your passion?

One day, I decided I wanted to start taking pictures of my kids myself. I always had an eye for photography but never thought about turning it into a career until one day I did.

4.) What motivates you to follow and pursue your passion?

My clients! When they rave about my work and refer me to everyone they know, it is truly the most rewarding feeling.

5.) What advice would you give to the new up and coming artist?

Never stop learning and never give up!!! The photography community can be brutal at times. Everyone who owns a camera calls themselves a photographer so it can be hard to compete in an oversaturated market. Keep doing what you love and never stop learning the new techniques that keep your clients coming back for more.

6.) What is the best advice would you give to your younger self?

To remind myself more that I am worthy and I can do anything I set my mind on.

7.) Have you or how do you contribute to the community?

I sponsor both of my boys baseball teams every year and I donate sessions to several silent auctions throughout the Des Moines area including our school district. My main way of giving back is through my Rainbow Baby Project. I donate a free newborn session once a month to a deserving family who is expecting a rainbow baby (baby who is born after the loss of a pregnancy, stillbirth or early infant loss). I also volunteer as a photographer and area dispatch for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS) which is a non-profit organization run by photographers all over the world who volunteer their time and skills to photograph babies that have passed away prior to birth or shortly after. The session and photographs are free to the families.

8.) Who do you look up to besides your parents?

Many of the leading photographers in our industry.

9.) What are your goals for the next 5 years?

I hope to still be rocking my business and making six figures (I’m close to that now) but I would also love to get back to nursing part time because I deeply miss caring for people.

10.) What is your motto in life?

"Now matter how you feel; get up, dress up and never give up!"

11.) How did you find out about Made4Mankind Clothing?

My good friend Nicole Franklin.

12.) What do you know about Made4Mankind Clothing?

They sell killer clothes and accessories and are making a huge impact with promoting businesses in the community.

13.) Describe Made4Mankind Clothing in one word.
