1.) Tell us about yourself and your childhood?

My name is Jayson Hinrichsen and I was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa. I was always a hipper kid growing up driving my parents crazy with all my energy. I grew up with an older sister name Jordan and we were very close. I started playing baseball at a young age among other sports but baseball being my favorite.

2.) Tell us about a challenging time in your life and what lessons you learned from it?

The most challenging time in my life was when I got diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis the summer of my Junior year of college. I learned that if I could live with this disease that I could do anything I put my mind to. Getting this disease lead me into my passion which I found out a year later was photography.

3.) How or what started your passion?

My passion started when a friend of mine “Michael Francis” asked me if I could film a music video for him. He said we could borrow his buddies camera. We never finished the video because I couldn’t figure out how to work the camera. Which sparked something in me to get my own camera.

4.) What motivates you to follow and pursue your passion?

Something that motivates me is seeing my art grow and progress. I also find motivation in peoples reactions to my photography and the fact that there are people out there that are inspired by my work.

5.) What advice would you give to the new up and coming artist?

My advice would be to never stop trying no matter what others say about your work, and watch a lot of youtube videos. Also to go out and shoot as much as possible as often as possible. There is a quote that says “Your first 10,000 photos are your worst.” So just keep pushing and you will learn your style and what you are good at in no time.

6.) What is the best advice would you give to your younger self?

I always say that I wish I would have started photography earlier on so I think I would tell my younger self to pick up that camera and get to shooting. I would also tell my younger self to never give up on your dreams even when times get tough.

7.) Have you or how do you do you contribute to the community?

I often times host photo walks where I invite starting photographers out to shoot with me and give them tips to improve their art. I always try my best to help out a fellow photographer to master the craft.

8.) Who do you look up to besides your parents?

Someone who I look up to as a role model who have to be Haris Nukem. He is a British photographer who has a skill level that I hope to reach with my own photography some day.

9.) What are your goals for the next 5 years?

My goals for the next 5 years are to move out to Los Angeles full time and pursue my dreams with photography, go on a major tour with a mainstream artist, and  to hold my own art show.

10.) What is your motto in life?

“The best swag you can have is confidence.” -Jayson H.
