JORDAN "THE DROPOUTS" (Producer/Songwriter)
1.) Tell us about yourself and your childhood?
My name is Jordan Rand. I'm a 24 year old music producer / songwriter from Des Moines, IA. I'm the owner of the music production company "THE DROPOUTS". I've been producing since 2012 and have been actively involved in the Des Moines hip-hop culture since 2009. I have a 5 year old daughter and I'm one of nine siblings in my family. I'm an anything-basketball fanatic (GO LAKE SHOW!!) and a retro gaming enthusiast (fancy way of saying, "I'm a nerd").
2.) Tell us about a challenging time in your life and what lessons you learned from it?
The hardest thing I've faced in music was having the group of people I worked with for years falling out. It really left a void for awhile. I had worked with these guys for years, built a brand, had a pretty nice following locally, and personal issues destroyed it all. Looking back today, it was for the best. I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing now if it weren't for that happening, not only as an artist, but as a person too. As cliche as it may sound, things happen for a reason. You have to keep your faith and your hustle!
3.) What motivates you to follow and pursue your passion?
My daughter is my #1 motivation! My family. The city. I feel I owe all of my successes to them. Without my family, my friends, and the love and support I've received from Des Moines, I wouldn't have made it this far, nor would I have been able to continue this amazing ride.
4.) What advice would you give to the new up and coming artists?
Be humble and work hard.
Believe in yourself.
No dream is too big!
5.) Have you or how do you do you contribute to the community?
I am an avid donator to various local charities and non-profit organizations across the Des Moines area. The Dropouts also has plans in place to generate funding for visual arts and music programs for the youth. We can't allow ourselves to let our childrens futures be decided by political agendas.
6.) Who do you look up to besides your parents?
The list is so extensive. So many people have taught me so much over the course of my life. I really couldn't pin it down to just one person.
7.) What are your goals in the next 5 years?
Spread the happiness and help make dreams come true. I'd love nothing more than for The Dropouts to be a household name in hip-hop, to be in Grammy consideration, and so forth. Those goals pale in comparison to the work I want to do in Des Moines. We have so many talented individuals here that deserve to have their art viewed and voice heard. I want to make that a reality.
8.) What is your motto in life?
"You're playing the game. Smile."
Here's the backstory: I was at the park by my place hooping with my nephews. This young kid shows up with his family and I'm not sure of what physical disability he had, but I'm pretty sure it was Cerebral Palsy. He showed up with a rubber ball (that was pretty much flat) and asked us to play with him. This kid showed love for the game that was unreal and it really ate me up inside that this kid would never be able to truly follow his passion because of an ailment that he was born with. While we're playing, my youngest nephew is taking the lighthearted game too seriously and looks pissed (Mamba Mentality!). The young kid looks at him and told him, "why you look so mad.. You're playing the game. Smile." That's a very powerful thing to say considering the circumstances.
9.) How long have you known Made4Mankind Clothing?
Coming close to a year now. -9/2017
10.) What do you know about Made4Mankind Clothing?
Outside of seeing tons of amazing local artists wearing the brand (Kemyst, MarKaus, Gadema, etc.) I had the luxury of meeting Aaron at Fresh Fest Music Festival and could really feel his passion for the brand when he spoke about it. The backstory of the logo, their mission; I knew it was a brand I'd love to support going forward from that point.
11.) What is your favorite apparel from Made4Mankind Clothing and why?
The Dad Hats are fire. The classic logo tee is my go-to right now though. I get stopped by people DAILY asking either what brand it is, or knowing the brand and shouting it out. It's truly an amazing thing Made4Mankind has going on right now.
12.) If you could do a collaboration with Made4Mankind Clothing, what kind of apparel would you choose and why? (T-shirt, Hat, Accessories, Etc.)
T-shirt to start things off. I'm really big into fashion though, so I could definitely see that turning into a more extensive series, when the opportunity presents itself.
