EMPEROR MADISON RAY (POP ARTIST)
1.) Tell us about yourself and your childhood?
I was born in Des Moines, Iowa. I started singing and dancing when I was 3 or 4 years old and I always loved how good that made me feel inside. I was raised by my mother, and she taught me how to fight against life's obstacles and never give up on myself. She also taught me to be a practicing Buddhist. I was encouraged to study hard and do my best but no matter how many doors opened for me, music was always my first choice.
2.) Tell us about a challenging time in your life and what lessons you learned from it?
There was a time when the people closest to me were completely against the idea of being an actor, musician, or anything creative. Hearing those voices all the time made me start to believe that I couldn't do it and I became the smallest version of myself. The lesson is: I had to fight for my dream. Every day. When I really moved on that feeling, hate turned into support and the people that didn't believe went away and I haven't seen them since.
3.) How or what started your passion?
I love the look on people's faces when they let themselves go and truly enjoy an experience. To be able to offer that escape to someone, even for a moment, is a wonderful gift.
4.) What motivates you to follow and pursue your passion?
I always look to my friends and family for motivation. I really want them to be proud of me and what I'm offering to our legacy.
5.) What advice would you give to the new up and coming artist?
Honor your truest self and express that person to the world.
6.) What is the best advice would you give to your younger self?
7.) Have you or how do you do you contribute to the community?
Through my shows, we have raised funds for cancer research, raised scholarship funds, brought community support and awareness to after school programs, the LGBTQ community, and am a teaching artist for the Des Moines Public Schools.
8.) Who do you look up to besides your parents?
I admire people that create. To make an idea into something tangible is amazing and I have such a deep respect for anyone who is willing to take that risk.
9.) What are your goals for the next 5 years?
- Travel the world and share my music wherever I go.
- To build Des Moines into being a cultural center in the midwest.
- Help others take steps to achieving their dreams.
10.) What is your motto in life?
"Be determined to give your all and to be fully engaged in what you are doing at any given moment."
11.) How did you find out about Made4Mankind Clothing?
I learned about Made4Mankind through Anthony San a.k.a A-San, one of the best b-boys in Des Moines. He was so excited to tell me all about the brand and the mission.
12.) What do you know about Made4Mankind Clothing?
This apparel company is so much more than just selling clothes. It's about building a culture of inclusion and community.
13.) Describe Made4Mankind Clothing in one word.
